Electricity is traditionally generated through the use of nonrenewable resources over a long period of time, usually five to ten years. Parallel to this, to overcome the Pakistani energy crisis, we must adopt alternative methods of creating electricity from renewable resources. There is an energy deficit in Pakistan due to a lack of energy efficiency legislation and implementation, the inadequacy of its energy power supply mix, as well as an increasing gap between supply and demand.
The economic health of the county is closely associated with energy in all its forms. Global warming, urbanization, and climate change are increasing energy demand every day. This article discusses how we can conserve and generate electricity in alternative ways within the country.
Improve the Energy Conservation Methods to Increase Energy Efficiency
Domestic, commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities must first conserve and reduce their energy use. There is a great need for energy conservation legislation, but there is a lack of it, and its application results in a slow process. Compact fluorescent lighting (CFL) replaces incandescent lights as the most significant energy-saving measure. This activity will certainly conserve a lot of energy, however, this is insufficient. Below are some alternate applications that will help in energy conservation:
1. Solar thermal
Solar thermal technology generates heat and cooling through the use of solar radiation. For residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional purposes, solar water heaters are quite an economical and convenient option.
The lack of knowledge, skills, and experience in the installation, operation and usage of solar water heaters hinders the growth of solar water heating. However, Solar water solutions typically have a payback period of one to two years.
2. Wind Power
Pakistan has great potential for wind power because it is a relatively cheaper alternative energy source. Unfortunately, wind power's growth is restricted by the long acquisition process of land and the coordination problems of developers with the government.
3. LED Lighting
Lighting that uses LEDs can save you a lot of energy. The high percentage of duties on LED lights imports is a barrier to its growth. Getting rid of duties would allow this sector to grow more quickly. Based on an estimate, 400 watts of conventional searchlights could be replaced by 80 watts of LED lights.
There are astonishing searchlights on Government and Pakistani buildings and by just converting conventional lights to LEDs, one-fifth of the energy used can be saved. In contrast to conventional lighting, LED lighting has vast advantages.
